Optimal distributed generation location and sizing for loss minimization and voltage profile optimization using ant colony algorithm

Abstract A system of power generation whereby the generating equipment is located close to point usage, thereby reducing losses and operation cost called distributed (DG). However, it imperative that DGs are sited such quality delivered optimized total real loss within minimized. This paper proposes an approach for optimum sizing siting in a distribution using Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm. To validate algorithm IEEE 30 bus standard test was employed. 92% decrease relative value before connection observed, while minimum voltage increased from 0.656 per unit 0.965 unit. The results obtained ACO further verified by creating ETAP model simulating impact DG on system. significant reduction improvement profile observed when placed at derived sites other locations. Therefore, Algorithm can be used deriving sizes
